OnlyFans Verification Process: Steps and How Long It Takes

The OnlyFans verification process asks for your legal details, a photo of your ID, a selfie holding that ID and your bank details, and it often takes a few days. You can’t post or earn until it’s done. OnlyFans requires it for legal compliance, age verification and fraud prevention, whatever kind of content you plan to make.

It isn’t complicated, but small mistakes can get you rejected and hold you up by days or even weeks. Below is what to expect, what to prepare and how to give yourself the best chance of approval first time. OnlyFans changes its screens now and then, so if something looks different, follow the on-screen instructions.

Why verification exists

OnlyFans works in a heavily regulated area. It needs to confirm that every creator is:

• A real person, not a bot or fake account
• Over eighteen
• Who they say they are, so nobody can impersonate someone else
• Legally able to receive payments

This isn’t unique to OnlyFans. Platforms that pay money to individuals have to run KYC (Know Your Customer) checks. They protect you as well as the platform.

Step-by-step verification process

Step 1: Create your account

Sign up with your email address and choose a display name. You can use a stage name on your profile, but you’ll need your legal name for verification. Your legal name isn’t shown publicly.

Step 2: Add your legal information

You’ll be asked for:

• Your legal first and last name (it must match your ID exactly)
• Your date of birth
• Your current home address
• Your country of residence

Check your name matches your ID precisely. If your passport says “Katherine” and you type “Kate”, expect a rejection.

Step 3: Upload your government-issued ID

OnlyFans accepts:

• Passport
• Driving licence
• National identity card

What the photo needs:

• The document must be valid, not expired
• All four corners must be visible
• The text must be sharp and readable
• No glare over important details
• It should be a colour photo, not black and white

How to get a clear photo:

• Put your ID on a dark, flat surface so it stands out
• Use daylight or a well-lit room
• Turn off the flash, which causes glare on laminated cards
• Hold your phone directly above the ID, not at an angle
• Get the whole document in the frame with some space around the edges

Step 4: Take a selfie holding your ID

This step confirms you’re the person on the ID. You’ll take a photo of yourself holding the document next to your face.

What the selfie needs:

• Your face clearly visible, with nothing covering it
• The ID held near your face, not resting on a table
• Your face and the ID details both in focus
• Your face easy to compare with the photo on the ID
• No filters, and no makeup heavy enough to change how you look
• No sunglasses or hats hiding your features

How to get it right:

• Use your front camera in a well-lit room
• Hold the ID at chin or chest height, tilted slightly towards the camera
• Stand in front of a plain background
• A different hairstyle from your ID photo is usually fine, as long as your face clearly matches

Step 5: Add your banking details

To get paid, you need to connect a bank account or give other payout details.

UK creators will need:

• Bank name
• Account holder name (matching your legal name)
• Sort code
• Account number

Some creators use e-wallets, but a UK bank account is the simplest option.

The account holder name must match the legal name you gave during verification. Joint accounts can cause problems, so an account in your name only is the safest choice.

Step 6: Submit and wait

Once you’ve submitted everything, OnlyFans reviews your application. You’ll get an email when there’s a decision.

How long does verification take?

OnlyFans doesn’t publish fixed timings, so treat these as a rough guide:

• Quickest: 24 to 48 hours
• Often: 48 to 72 hours
• Busy periods: up to 5 working days
• If you’re rejected and resubmit: allow another 48 to 72 hours per attempt

There’s no official way to speed it up and no paid fast track. If you’re planning a launch, submit your verification well before the day you want to start posting.

Common rejection reasons

These are the issues that most often stop verification going through.

Blurry or unclear ID photo

One of the most common problems. If any text on your ID can’t be read clearly, expect it to be rejected. That includes:

• Blurry photos from camera shake
• Glare over the text or photo
• Corners cut off
• Low-resolution photos

Name mismatch

Your legal name must match your ID exactly. Common mistakes:

• Using a nickname instead of your full legal name
• Misspelling your own name
• Using your married name when your ID still shows your maiden name
• Leaving out a middle name that’s on your ID

Expired document

Your ID must be valid. Check the expiry date before you submit. If your driving licence or passport has expired, use a different document or renew it first.

Selfie does not match

If the reviewers can’t confirm the person in the selfie is the person on the ID, it’ll be rejected. That tends to happen when:

• Heavy makeup or filters change how you look
• Poor light makes your features hard to see
• The ID is too far from your face to compare
• You’re wearing sunglasses or a hat

Bank details do not match

If the name on your bank account doesn’t match your legal name exactly, it can be flagged. Business accounts or accounts in a trading name can also cause problems.

Underage appearance

OnlyFans is understandably careful here. If there’s any doubt about whether you’re old enough, expect extra checks.

Tips for first-try approval

1. Use your passport if you can. Passports often have clearer photos and less glare than driving licences.

2. Match everything exactly. Use the same spelling and format of your name as your ID, everywhere.

3. Check your photos before you submit. Zoom in. Can you read every line of text? Is the photo on the ID clear? If not, take it again.

4. Get the light right. Daylight near a window is ideal. Avoid overhead lights that throw shadows.

5. Use a plain background for your selfie. A plain wall behind you makes the comparison easier for the reviewer.

6. Turn off every filter. Even beauty mode or automatic skin smoothing on some phone cameras can cause problems. Use the standard photo mode.

7. Don’t count on the day you submit. Some creators say weekday submissions come back faster than weekend ones, but there’s no official word on it.

What to do while waiting

Verification can take a few days, but you don’t have to sit and wait.

Prepare your profile

Use the time to get your profile ready:

• Write your bio
• Choose your display name and username
• Decide on your subscription price, ready to set once you’re approved
• Plan your welcome message

Prepare your content

Use the wait to:

• Shoot your first week of content
• Edit and watermark everything
• Write captions
• Plan your posting schedule
• Build up a few days of spare content so you can launch strong

Plan your promotion

Work out where you’ll promote once you’re live:

• Which social platforms will you use?
• What’s your Reddit plan?
• Have you set up a Twitter/X account?

Get your tax house in order

Re-verification requirements

OnlyFans may ask you to verify again at some point. Situations where that can happen include:

• Routine checks that the account is still run by the verified person
• Coming back to an account that’s been inactive for a long time
• Unusual activity, such as odd login patterns or changes to your bank details
• Changes to OnlyFans’ own compliance rules

Re-verification usually follows the same steps as the first time. Keep your documents in date and easy to find so you can respond quickly if asked.

UK-specific considerations

Accepted documents

For UK residents, the most reliable documents are:

• A UK passport, which is the strongest option
• A UK photocard driving licence
• An EU or EEA national identity card, if you’re a non-UK national living in the UK

An old-style paper UK driving licence is unlikely to be accepted. If that’s all you have, use your passport or a provisional photocard licence.

Address verification

Use your current home address in the UK. A PO box won’t do. If you’ve moved recently and your ID shows your old address, it may not cause a problem, but it’s worth updating your ID anyway.

Banking

A UK bank account with a sort code and account number should work, whether that’s a high street bank, an online bank (Monzo, Starling, Revolut UK) or a building society, as long as it’s in your name.

It’s also worth opening a separate account just for your OnlyFans income. Verification doesn’t require it, but it makes bookkeeping much easier, and it helps when it’s time to file your Self Assessment.

Right to work

Verification confirms who you are and how old you are. Separately, if you’re in the UK on a visa, check whether your visa conditions allow self-employment, because OnlyFans income counts as self-employed earnings.

After verification: next steps

Once you’re approved, you’re ready to go live. Your priorities:

1. Upload the content you’ve prepared and schedule your first week

If anyone else will appear in your content, they must be a tagged, verified OnlyFans creator, or an adult aged 18 or over whose ID and written consent (a release form) you hold.
