OnlyFans Referral Programme: 5% for 12 Months Explained
How the OnlyFans referral programme works, including the 5% for 12 months structure, who qualifies, and whether it is worth your time.
The OnlyFans referral programme pays you 5% of a referred creator’s earnings for their first 12 months, capped at $50,000 per creator you refer. It comes out of OnlyFans’ share, so the creator you refer loses nothing, and it’s worth having as a small bonus. Don’t expect it to replace your own page.
It isn’t a secret feature, but plenty of creators overlook it or get the details wrong. Below is how it works, what you can realistically expect and whether it’s worth building into your plans.
How the referral programme works
It’s simple. As a verified OnlyFans creator, you get your own referral link. When someone signs up through that link and starts their own OnlyFans page, you earn a percentage of what they make for a set period.
The structure:
- You earn 5% of the referred creator’s earnings for their first 12 months on the platform.
- Your earnings from each referred creator are capped at $50,000.
- The 5% comes out of OnlyFans’ share of revenue. It isn’t taken from the referred creator’s payout, and they still get their full 80%.
- After 12 months, the referral payments stop. You earn nothing more from that creator.
- There’s no limit on the number of people you can refer.
The key point: the creator you refer loses nothing by using your link. Their earnings, their payout percentage and their experience on the platform don’t change. OnlyFans just gives you a slice of its 20% platform fee as a reward for bringing someone in.
Who can use the referral programme
To use the programme, you need:
- A verified OnlyFans creator account (a fan account won’t do).
- An active page. There’s no minimum subscriber count or earnings level.
That’s all. If you’ve got a verified creator account, your referral link is already waiting in your account. Look for the referrals section of your dashboard and you’ll find a link with your tracking code built in.
How to share your referral link
When someone clicks your link and signs up through it, the referral is tracked automatically. Once you’ve shared the link, there’s nothing else to do.
These are the most natural places to share it.
When someone asks you about getting started
If a friend, someone you know or a follower asks how OnlyFans works or how to sign up, that’s the perfect moment. You’re helping them, and you pick up a referral at the same time.
In creator communities
If you’re active in creator forums, Discord servers or group chats, chances will come up on their own. When someone says they’re thinking of starting a page, share your link along with some straight advice about what to expect.
On your social media
Some creators put their referral link in their bio, or post about what OnlyFans has been like for them. It works best if your audience includes people who might become creators, as well as fans.
In blog posts or guides
If you write about your experience, your referral link fits naturally into content for people who are thinking about joining.
What you should not do
A few things to avoid.
Don’t spam your link everywhere
Posting your referral link all over unrelated places won’t get sign-ups, and it damages your reputation.
Don’t make unrealistic promises
Telling people they’ll make a fortune on OnlyFans so they sign up through your link is dishonest. If they join expecting too much and then quit the platform, you earn nothing anyway.
Don’t target vulnerable people
The programme is for pointing people who are already interested towards the platform. It’s never a reason to pressure anyone into sex work they’re unsure about.
Don’t create fake accounts
OnlyFans watches for fraudulent referrals. Setting up dummy accounts to earn referral money can get your own account banned.
Realistic expectations
It helps to be clear-eyed about what this income looks like.
Most people you refer won’t become high earners straight away. New creators can take months to build an audience. Some never really get going. Others leave the platform within a few months.
Your 5% is based on what the referred creator actually earns. If their first year is modest, your referral income from them will be modest too. If they grow quickly, your share grows with them, up to the $50,000 cap.
A few things tip the odds your way:
- Volume helps. Referring one person and hoping they become a big success is a gamble. Referring several people over time gives you a better chance that some of them do well.
- Timing matters. Someone who already has a social media following or a clear plan is more likely to earn well than someone with no audience and no plan.
- It builds up. If you refer several creators over a year and some of them find their feet, you can have several referral payments coming in at once.
Is it worth pursuing?
It depends on your situation.
It’s worth it if:
- You already know people in creator circles and often end up talking to people who are thinking about OnlyFans.
- Your social media attracts people who want to become creators.
- You’re happy to give the people you refer real help, which improves their chances and, with them, your referral income.
- You see it as a low-effort bonus and don’t need it to be a main source of income.
It’s probably not worth prioritising if:
- You rarely talk to people who might become creators.
- You’d have to spend a lot of time recruiting referrals and less time on your own content.
- You’re hoping to get rich quick. This won’t do it.
The programme works best as an add-on to what you’re already doing. If you already give friends advice, spend time in creator communities or post about your experience, adding your referral link takes seconds and costs you nothing.
The referral programme vs. other income streams
To put it in context, this is how the referral programme compares with the other ways you earn.
Subscriptions are your baseline. They’re predictable, they recur every month and you control them directly.
Tips and PPV are where your active income comes from. They grow with your effort, the quality of your content and how engaged your audience is.
The referral programme is a low-effort extra. Once you’ve shared your link it needs almost no work, but the money is uncertain and it stops after 12 months.
Keep your main focus on subscriptions and direct sales like tips, PPV and custom content. The referral programme is a nice extra on top of your own audience, and it can’t stand in for one.

Tracking your referrals
The referrals section of your OnlyFans dashboard shows you:
- The number of creators who’ve signed up through your link.
- Which of them are earning.
- How much referral income you’ve made.
Check it now and then, but don’t obsess over it. This kind of income builds slowly and unevenly. Some months you’ll see referral payments and some months you won’t. That’s normal.
Tax considerations
Referral income is taxed the same way as the rest of your OnlyFans earnings. In the UK, it counts as self-employment income and goes on your Self Assessment tax return.
If you’re already registered as self-employed for your OnlyFans income (and you should be), referral payments just get added to your total earnings for the tax year. You don’t need to register again or file anything extra.

How we think about referrals at TalentGrow
The OnlyFans programme above is run by OnlyFans. TalentGrow has its own referral scheme, and it’s completely separate. If you refer a creator to us, you earn 5 to 10% of TalentGrow’s management fee for that creator (the rate depends on the number and quality of your referrals). It’s paid monthly, in line with the creator’s invoices, for as long as they stay, with no cap and no clawback.
If you’d like management yourself, the team works in your account through Infloww, a creator CRM, where it can see stats, make posts and send messages. It has no access to your bank details, payout information, email or social media accounts. The account stays in your name, payouts go to your bank, and you keep full control and can end our access at any time by changing your password. We invoice after you’ve been paid, and it’s month to month with no lock-in and no exit fees, on 14 days’ notice. To find out more, see how we work or apply to work with us.
Treat it as a bonus
The OnlyFans referral programme is a legitimate way to earn a bit extra, as long as your expectations are realistic. On its own it won’t carry a business, but as a low-effort extra it pays you for something you might already do: helping people you know get started on the platform.
Share your link when it makes sense, give the people you refer real help, and enjoy whatever it brings in. As long as you don’t build your plans around it, it won’t let you down.
