OnlyFans Income Streams: 7 Ways Creators Earn

OnlyFans pays for more than subscriptions. The 7 ways creators earn on the platform and how to use each one.

There are seven ways to earn on OnlyFans: subscriptions, tips, PPV messages, paid DMs, live stream tips, premium interactions like calls, and the referral programme. A lot of new creators only think about the first one. You set a monthly price, people subscribe, and that’s your income. It’s a fair assumption, but it misses most of the picture.

For plenty of creators, subscriptions aren’t even the biggest part of what they earn. One anonymised page we’ve published a statement for earned $27,213 in 30 days, and only $23.97 of that came from subscriptions, because it was a free page. The rest came from the other streams.

It’s worth knowing how all seven work, and how they fit together.

1. Subscriptions

Subscriptions are the foundation. A fan pays a monthly fee to access your page and everything on your feed. You set the price, and it stays the same each month unless you change it.

You choose a subscription price (OnlyFans allows anything from free to $49.99 a month). Subscribers are billed monthly, and you get 80% of the fee after the platform’s 20% cut.

Subscriptions give you predictable, recurring income. From your subscriber count and price, you can work out roughly what your base income will be. That makes it much easier to plan your content schedule and your spending.

Your subscription price should reflect what fans get on your main feed. If your feed is full of daily posts, it can carry a higher price. If your feed is more of a preview that points fans towards paid extras, a lower price, or a free page, makes sense as a way to bring people in.

Not sure what to charge? Our pricing calculator lets you try different prices against your subscriber count until you find the right one.

Some creators run a free page and a paid page at the same time, using the free page to move fans towards the paid one. We went through that approach in detail in our post on free vs paid OnlyFans pages.

2. Tips

Tips are payments fans choose to send, to say thanks, to get your attention, or to buy something off your tip menu. Fans can tip as often as they like, so a single fan can end up tipping far more than their subscription costs.

Fans can tip on posts, in messages or during live streams. Tips go straight to your balance (minus the 20% fee), and you don’t have to deliver anything unless you’ve tied the tip to a menu item.

Tips grow with the strength of your relationships more than with how much you post. A creator with 200 engaged fans who tip regularly can outearn a creator with 2,000 subscribers who never interact. Tips reward the time you put into talking to fans and building a community.

Build a clear tip menu that gives fans options at different prices. Include a mix of content and personal extras like ratings, custom messages or shoutouts by name. Make tipping easy, and give fans a reason to do it.

3. Pay-per-view (PPV) messages

PPV is where a lot of creators make most of their money. You send a message with locked content attached and set a price. The fan pays to unlock it.

You write a message, attach content (a photo, a video or both), set a price, and send it to one fan or to your whole subscriber list as a mass message. Fans see a preview or teaser and decide whether to unlock the full photo or video.

PPV lets you earn more than once from the same content. You make it once and can send it to your whole list. It also means you can keep your subscription price low enough to be easy to say yes to, while your premium content sits behind separate paywalls.

Strong PPV comes down to teasing it first so fans are curious, pricing it right for the type of content, and sending it when your fans are most active. Don’t send PPV every day, or fans will start to feel every message is a sales pitch. Mix paid and free messages so your audience stays open to them.

PPV content doesn’t have to be new every time. Themed bundles, “best of” compilations and seasonal content can all sell well, especially to fans who joined recently and missed your older posts.

4. Paid DMs (direct messages)

Messaging is a way to earn in its own right, beyond PPV. Personal conversations with fans in your DMs can bring in a lot of money.

Fans send tips in DM conversations to ask for particular things, to keep a long chat going, or to say thanks while you’re talking. Some creators also charge for ongoing one-to-one messaging through their tip menu.

DMs are where your strongest fan relationships grow. A fan who feels a real connection with you is likely to spend a lot more over time than one who scrolls your feed in silence.

Reply promptly and be warm. Use fans’ names, ask about their day, and treat messages like a conversation instead of a vending machine. Set specific times for DMs and give fans your full attention then. That works better than being half there all day.

5. Live streaming tips

Live streaming on OnlyFans lets you talk to fans in real time, and the tips during a live session can add up to a lot.

You go live on your OnlyFans page, and subscribers can watch and interact as it happens. Fans tip during the stream, often in response to the chat or a request, or as part of tip games you set up.

Live streams create urgency. Because it’s happening now, fans can be more involved and more willing to spend in the moment. Live content feels exclusive too, because once it’s over it’s gone (unless you save it).

Announce your streams in advance so fans know to turn up. Plan what you’ll do: Q&As, challenges, tip-goal reveals or interactive games. If you stream at the same time each week, fans can plan around it. Stream at random and it’s harder for them to catch you.

6. Coaching, calls, and premium interactions

Some creators sell one-to-one services that sit outside the usual content model. Video calls, voice calls, personal coaching sessions and mentoring can all earn you money.

You offer these at a set rate through your tip menu. Fans tip to book a session, and you deliver it at the agreed time. Keep booking and payment on OnlyFans, because taking payment from fans off the platform can break OnlyFans’ terms.

These are high-priced extras. One video call or coaching session can bring in more than dozens of subscriptions. They can also make fans more loyal, because the experience is personal to them.

Be clear about what’s included, how long a session lasts and when you’re available. Price for the time and energy it takes, not only what feels comfortable to ask for. Our guide on how to price custom content on OnlyFans goes deeper into pricing. Keep your availability limited. If you only offer a few slots a week, fans are more likely to book quickly and pay your price.

7. The referral programme

OnlyFans runs a referral programme that pays you for bringing new creators to the platform. It’s a separate income stream that doesn’t need any content at all.

You share your own referral link. When a new creator signs up through it and starts earning, you get 5% of their earnings for their first 12 months, up to $50,000 per referred creator. That comes out of OnlyFans’ share, not the referred creator’s, so they still get their full 80%.

Once someone has signed up through your link and started earning, you get commission without doing anything else. If you’ve got a big social media following, or know people in the industry, it can add up over time.

Share your referral link where people thinking about becoming creators will see it. That could be on social media, in creator communities, or with friends who are thinking about starting a page. Keep it real. Talk about what’s worked for you and why you’d recommend the platform, and don’t make big promises about what they’ll earn.

How these income streams work together

Creators who earn well don’t usually rely on just one or two of these streams. They build a system where each one feeds the others.

For an established creator, each stream might play a role like this:

  • Subscriptions give you the base. Steady, recurring income you can plan around.
  • PPV does most of the earning. Regular sends to fans who already know you bring in most of your variable income.
  • Tips come from the relationships you build in DMs and by engaging with fans.
  • DMs make fans more loyal and open the door to custom content and tips.
  • Live streams build community and bring in bursts of tips.
  • Premium interactions give your biggest spenders something exclusive.
  • Referrals add a passive layer on top of everything else.

The exact mix varies. Some creators make most of their money from PPV. Others lean on tips and DMs. The right balance depends on your content, your audience and how you like to spend your time.

Building your revenue strategy

If you’re just starting out, focus on subscriptions and PPV first. They’re the easiest to set up and make the quickest difference. Once you’ve got a steady base, add a tip menu, spend more time in DMs and try live streams.

Don’t leave money on the table by ignoring streams your fans would happily pay for. It’s easy to stick with two or three of these seven. Adding the others can grow your earnings without needing more fans.
